Fees:
Payment is due by the first day of the second week of the classroom segment. For your convenience, we accept all major credit cards and gift certificates are also available.
Classroom Segment
The Traffic Safety Bureau is requiring that all students under the age of eighteen, who apply for a first-time New Mexico Drivers License take this class. This course will cover DWI Education and Prevention, defensive driving, rules and regulations, and most importantly, the psychological attitude of being a good driver.
The street driving lessons allow you the choice of driving standard, automatic or both types of cars. McGinnis School of Driving is one of the few places that still offers driver training using standard transmission vehicles.
Permits and License
We are pleased to announce that we now issue the permits and the written and road driving exams here at McGinnis. All testing is done with us!

LEARNER PERMIT: If you are fifteen years of age and enrolled in our driver education program you will receive a learner permit. This will allow you to drive with a licensed driver over the age of 21 and who has been licensed for a minimum of 3 years. You must hold this permit for a minimum of 6 months and complete 50 hours of driving, including 10 hours after dark.
PROVISIONAL LICENSE: When a student has had a learner permit for 6 months, and has successfully completed our driver education program, and logged 50 hours of driving, they may apply for a provisional license. The provisional license will allow a student to drive alone between the hours of 5 am and Midnight, with the limitation that not more than one person under the age of 21 who is not a member of the driver’s immediate family be in the vehicle. Provisional license must be held for one year and is issued by MVD.
FULL LICENSE: A full license will be issued by MVD after completing the above requirements.
